Hawaii - Traditional home of the Polynesians. The islands were
originally called the Sandwich islands by Captain James Cookin 1778. They were named
after his friend John Montague, the 4th Earl of
Sandwich and first lord of the Admiralty. King Kamehameha I
ruled and united the islands in 1819 as the Kingdom of Hawaii.
