1634 - Jean Nicolet was the first known European to reach Wisconsin in search of the Northwest Passage.
1659-1660 - French fur traders Pierre-Esprit Radisson (1636 - 1710) and Médard Chouart, Sieur des Groseilliers (1618 - 1710) explore the region
1673 - The Jesuit priest Jacques Marquette (1637-1675) and the French Explorer and fur trader Louis Jolliet (1645-1700) explore the region
1679 - Frenchman Daniel Greysolon, Sieur du Luth (1636–1710) claims the region for France
