Maximilian von Prittwitz Biography Summary: Maximilian von Prittwitz (1848 - 1917) was famous for being an Imperial German General who fought in the Austro-Prussian War, the Franco-Prussian War and for a short time in the First World War.

Having completed his education and joined the German Imperial Army. Initially his military career was successful, he was promoted when it was appropriate and he reached the rank of Generaloberst and was placed in command of the German Eight Army when World War I broke out. However, he was not a bold leader and when it appeared the Russianís were in a position to threaten his rear he requested permission to withdraw.

This would effectively see the end to his career. He was replaced forthwith by Hindenburg who successfully destroyed both invading Russian armies.

Maximilian von Prittwitz Fact 1: Maximilian von Prittwitz was born on November 27, 1848 and during the 19th century period in history when many empires across the globe collapsed, the Spanish, first and second French, Holy Roman, Mughal and Chinese but the British and Russian Empires, the United States and German Empire where on the rise.

Maximilian von Prittwitz Fact 2: In 1874 he married Olga von Dewitz, the daughter of a land owner, Kurt von Dewitz.
