Biography Summary: Max Ritter von Mulzer (1893 – 1916) was one of the most famous Bavarian airmen of WW1. Max Ritter von Mulzer was a very young and talented pilot who began his flying career at twenty one years of age in 1914. Commonly referred to as Bavarian Max he was one of Bavaria’s fighter ace pilots and one of Bavaria’s first recipients of the Pour le Mérite as well as the first Bavarian knighted for his achievements.
 

The tragedy of course was that whilst test flying a new aircraft, he lost control, and died on September 26th 1916 at only twenty three years of age.

Max Ritter von Mulzer Fact 1: Max Ritter von Mulzer was born on July 9th 1893 and during the latter part of the 19th century period in history when many empires across the globe collapsed, the Spanish, first and second French, Holy Roman, Mughal and Chinese but the British and Russian Empires, the United States and German Empire where on the rise.

Max Ritter von Mulzer Fact 2: On July 10th 1914 Max Ritter von Mulzer would be commissioned into the 8th Cavalry Regiment on December 13th 1914.

Max Ritter von Mulzer Fact 3: Transferring to the aviation division on August 20th 1915 he was stationed to FA 4 in December.

Max Ritter von Mulzer Fact 4: Max Ritter von Mulzer would be posted to fly with Oswald Boelcke and Max Immelmann in the FFA 62.

Max Ritter von Mulzer Fact 5: Oswald Boelcke was also a German Flying Ace during the First World War.

Max Ritter von Mulzer Fact 6: Max Immelmann was known as the first German flying ace of World War I and was given the nickname of Saxon Max.

Max Ritter von Mulzer Fact 19: Max Ritter von Mulzer was heard to have said “Immelmann is dead, Parschau is dead, Wintgens is dead. Now I am next in line.”

Max Ritter von Mulzer Fact 20: Whilst on a test flight in the Albatros D.I. out of Flug Park 6 in Valenciennes he side slipped the Albatros into a hard bank, he proceeded to lose control and crashed. Max Ritter von Mulzere died on September 26th 1916 in France.
