Biography Summary: Kaiser Wilhelm II (1859 - 1941) was the emperor (kaiser) of Germany and the king of Prussia. Kaiser Wilhelm II was a man who would open his mouth before thinking through what he was going to say, which usually turned out to be something disastrous. Although very closely related to the English crown, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert being his grandparents, no matter who hard he tried, he could not get close to his English family.

Kaiser Wilhelm II married twice, his first wife Princess Augusta Victoria of Schleswig-Holstein bore him seven children but she died in 1921 and he married again in 1922 to Princess Hermine Reuss of Greiz and were married for nineteen years.

He grew up with his siblings, Charlotte, Henry, Sigismund, Viktoria, Waldemar, Sophie and Margaret *** Education: Kaiser Wilhelm II would have been educated to the best possible standard with private tutors ***

Kaiser Wilhelm II Fact 1: Kaiser Wilhelm II was born on January 27th 1859 and during the 19th century period in history when many empires across the globe collapsed, the Spanish, first and second French, Holy Roman, Mughal and Chinese but the British and Russian Empires, the United States and German Empire where on the rise.

Kaiser Wilhelm II Fact 2: He was related to several Royal houses around Europe he was Queen Victoria’s eldest grandson and so was first cousin to King George V.

Kaiser Wilhelm II Fact 3: A belligerent personality, Kaiser Wilhelm II was short on thinking before he spoke and often found himself the center of controversy, so much so that having dismissed his Chancellor, Otto von Bismarck he set Germany on a course that would culminate in his support of the Austria-Hungary crisis which would lead to the First World War.

Kaiser Wilhelm II Fact 5: In one particular instance in 1908, he gave a disastrous interview to the Daily Telegraph that lost him the majority of his power. What he had intended was to promote a stronger Anglo-German relationship, what he said included the likes of that the Germans cared little for the British, that the naval buildup Germany was involved in was for targeting Japan and not Britain and his famous quote “You English are mad, mad, mad as March Hares.” which had the German population calling for his abdication.

Kaiser Wilhelm II Fact 10: Ultimately responsible for the outbreak of World War I, Keiser Wilhelm would also be depicted in Germany's ruination to the extent that he was forced to give up his crown and moved to live in exile in the Netherlands.

Kaiser Wilhelm II Fact 11: Article 227 of the Treaty of Versailles specifically called for the prosecution of Kaiser Wilhelm II but Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands refused to extradite him.

Kaiser Wilhelm II Fact 12: While living in exile Kaiser Wilhelm II wrote his memoirs, he entertained and kept himself apprised of events throughout Europe. He secretly held hope that the rising German Nazi Party might spark an interest in restoring the monarchy but that was not to be, certainly under Hitler’s rule, a man who blamed Wilhelm for Germany’s extreme downfall.

Kaiser Wilhelm II Fact 13: On June 3rd of 1941 Wilhelm II died of a pulmonary embolus at Doorn, Netherlands, aged eighty two years. His body was laid to rest in the grounds of Huis Doorn.
