Hermann Goering Fact 1: Hermann Goering was born on January 12th, 1893 during the latter part of the 19th century, a time when great strides were being made in many sections of society, science, technology and innovations.
Hermann Goering Fact 2: During World War I he acquitted himself as an ace fighter pilot so well he was awarded the Pour le Mťrite.
Hermann Goering Fact 3: Hermann Goering would become the last commander of Jadgdeschwader 1, the fighter wing which had famously been led by the Red Baron, Manfred von Richthofen.

Hermann Goering Fact 17: Goeringís nemesis Martin Bormann intercepted a message to Hitler trying as tactfully as possible to establish leadership in Hitlerís absence, Bormann managed to convince the Fuhrer that it was act of treason and Hitler ordered that Goering be expelled from the party and no longer named his successor, he appointed Karl Donitz in his stead.Hermann Goering Fact 18: Upon receiving the news that Hitler was dead, Hermann Goering decided to surrender himself to the Americans rather than the Russians and before Bormann could execute him.
Hermann Goering Fact 19: Having been officially charge with various crimes and tried at the Nuremberg trials, Hermann Goering was ultimately found guilty of war crimes against humanity and sentenced to hang. He tried to request a firing squad to die as a soldier rather than a common criminal but was refused.
Hermann Goering Fact 20: On October 15th 1946 Hermann Goering was found dead by potassium cyanide in his cell the night before his hanging. It was never established how he managed to obtain the pill. His body was cremated and his ashes scattered.
Influence & Legacy: His part in what happened during Hitlerís rise and subsequent war cannot be diminished or separated in any way from that of Hitler or Nazism. As a lover of the arts he was also supremely responsible for the seizure of priceless artefacts and works of art and their confiscation from their rightful owners.
