Frank James Fact 1: Frank James was born on January 10th 1843 and during the 19th century period in history when slavery would largely become abolished during this century with salve revolts in Britain, Haiti and France. In particular in America the Civil War of 1861 to 1864 saw the abolition of slavery and in England the Slavery Abolition Act saw the British Royal Navy put an end to the global slave trade.

Frank James Fact 7: Having surrendered to the Union troops he was paroled and allowed to return to his home but when he arrived he was once more arrested by the pro-Union militia who forced him to sign an oath of allegiance to the Union before releasing him once more.
Frank James Fact 8: Although the Confederate troops withdrew in the early winter of 1864 a guerrilla conflict soon erupted between the Union homeguards and the bushwhackers who were the pro-Confederate irregulars.
Frank James Fact 9: Frank did not believe in the oath he had been forced to take and so he joined the guerrillas of Fernando Scott before joining another more active band let by William Clark Quantrill.
Frank James Fact 10: By this time his mother was married to Dr Samuel and his farm was raided by the Union militiamen who were looking for Scott and Reuben Samuel was hanged, but did not die from hanging, after being tortured for information.
Frank James Fact 11: Not long after this, James was part of the Lawrence Massacre in August of 1863 where around two hundred people largely unarmed civilians died.
Frank James Fact 12: James was active as a bandit between 1868 and 1876 and took part in at least four robberies resulting in the deaths of civilians and banks employees.
Frank James Fact 13: In September of 1876 he took part in the Northfield raid in Minnesota which became known as one of the worst incidents and that resulted in the capture or deaths of most of the gang members.
Frank James Fact 14: With his brother dead some five months previously, Frank boarded a train heading for Jefferson City in Missouri.
