Chiang Kai-shek Facts and Biography

Chiang Kai-shek

Biography Summary: Chiang Kai-shek (1887 - 1975) was the Chinese anti-communist military and political leader who served as the head of the Republic of China between 1928 and 1975 and the president of the Republic of China on Taiwan from 1950. Chiang Kai-shek was a strong believer in the Republic of China but was unable to build a rapport with the Chinese Communist Party.  Chiang Kai-shek found himself facing the Japanese invasion of China from the outside and the Chinese communist Party battling from within. He then had to contend with the Allies and their joint involvement in World War II and as a result was not able to keep a grip on so many issues.

Finally Chiang Kai-shek and his government withdrew to Taiwan in 1950 and although he longed to take back mainland China he only managed to serve as president of the Republic of China on Taiwan.
