    • Bull baiting was a popular, bloodthirsty form of entertainment in England during the 1500's
    • The 'sport' was conducted in purpose built arenas
    • Pitbulls were trained to bait and attack tethered bulls
    • The bull was tethered to a stake by its horns, via a 15ft rope attached to an iron ring
    • The owners of the Pitbulls would let them loose at different stages of the fight
    • The bull was baited for about one hour

      • In rat baiting as many as 100 rats were put into a ring, or a rat pit, and wagers were made on whose dog could kill the most rats within a minute
      • The last public rat baiting competition took place in Leicester in 1912

    • Dogs were trained to fight each other to the death - this dates back to antiquity and the Romans practised this form of 'entertainment' in the Roman Colisseum
